Clock WorkHey there everyone! I haven’t been on my blog lately. Want to know why?! Well, sadly I am not in Mrs. Braidwood’s class this year and I miss doing blogging work so much! So, I have decided to keep my blog and keep writing on it through-out the year. I am still going to comment on the Ripple Effect blog and all of my other friend’s blogs. I hope that people are still going to check out my blog and keep making comments!

This year in my new class we have been using the computers but we haven’t blogged this year. I have brought it upon myself to keep up with the blogging work and I might even take the time to sign u[p for the 2011 Blogging Challenge (Hopefully the work is much easier this year). But anyways I am looking forward to hearing your input and comments. So thanks for reading and I hope to hear from you later in the year!

Summer Fun

Hey everybody! I’m sorry I haven’t posted anything lately… I have been busy with summer plans! :) Summer here hasn’t been super warm but it has had really hot days occasionally. When it was really hot out I would usually go to my friend’s house with my sister and play in their pool. It was lots of fun. I remember on the first day off of school I went to see Twilight: Eclipse with my friends at midnight in the theater. It was a good movie. Shortly after that I went camping with my mom, sister, brother, and cousin and we spent just about everyday at the beach! We chose a really good week to go because it was really warm outside and the water was super refreshing. We made sand castles and cities and played with my dogs in the water which was really fun!

Then on August 11th I went on a big school clothes shopping trip in Vancouver with 2 of my friends, my sister and my mom and her friends, too. We woke up at 5:00 am and left the house by 7:00am and came back from shopping the same day just at around 12:00-1:00am… so technically the next day but you know what I mean.  3 days after that it was my BIRTHDAY! :) I didn’t have a party but I had. I forgot to mention that when I was in Vancouver for the day I got my ears pierced! It hurt a lot but I was fine after of course. I have been hanging out with Shania a lot this summer and we just recently went to the Fall Fair together and that was AWESOME! We had these wrist bands that  we used so we could go on any rides as many times we wanted but everyone else there had tickets because the wrist bands were for the next day. The reason we got them was because her dad worked there and he gave one to her and her brother gave his to me because he wasn’t going to be there. It was fun!

There is a ride called the Zipper and Shania and I went on it 37 times! We were there for around 12 hours! It was so much fun! But now I have to go so I will do another post soon! Bye for now! Comment! :D

PS: I can’t add a picture because my computer wont let me… :( But thanks for reading! :)

Lots of Things Change in a Little Amount of Time

abcdefgWow! I can’t believe it! I just read my first post on why I joined the Blogging Challenge 2009. And wow. Just wow. I can tell just by reading that, that was my first post. I really noticed as soon as I started reading it that I wasn’t really detailing my writing and that I was jumping from idea to idea. So, the writing was kind of annoying to read and super choppy. When I did read it over I saw that I wasn’t interacting with my readers. I would just state facts so it would be like a list… not a post.

One thing for sure is that this year I have learned so much about writing, blogging, and computers. I think that blogging has contributed to  my writing and it’s made me really think about what I am saying and adding lots and lots of details to back up my writing. Now that I look at my newest post New Years Reflections I really see that I do add more details making sure that I back up my writing. I really like to work on my blog now because my ideas come so easy to me. I think that is because of the help from Mrs. Braidwood with all of my writing! I would like Mrs. Braidwood to notice that my writing is more detailed and more fun to read. Also that I use more descriptive words in my posts.

So, if it’s the end of the year for you… What have you learned since the beginning of the year? Do you think you will continue blogging and using details, punctuation, and descriptive words?

New Years Reflections

Water refectionsYou remember how I made that New Year’s Resolutions post? Well, I am going to tell you what I have accomplished and the things that I haven’t yet accomplished. The first one for my personal goal was to keep my room clean. Well the thing is that I moved into a different room and I had to move all of my things into it. So, it was messy for a little bit but then I cleaned it again. Now it is messy though because I didn’t get time to clean it.

The next goal was my school goal. That goal was to get straight A’s. And I actually accomplished that in the second term by working hard in my math, science and french. We haven’t gotten our report cards yet though for the last term (we only have a week and a half left so I will get it soon).

The third goal was my community goal. It was to pick up garbage when I see it. I did accomplish that one easily because I usually do pick up garbage when I see it.

And my last goal was a global goal. I said that I would use less energy and I made sure that I did. I turn off lights when I don’t need them on, I unplug electric devices when I don’t need them, and I didn’t watch as much TV or use the computer much either.

So, accomplishing 3/4 isn’t bad. Now I just have to work on my personal goal and then I have accomplished all of my goals. Now here’s a question for you, have you had success with all of your goals? If you have… was it hard? Thanks for reading! :)

21st Century Learning

2

Posted by hannan | Posted in Blogging, News | Posted on 16-06-2010

WordleSo, the end of the school year is coming up really fast! This year we have learned lots about 21st century tools. We were asked by Mrs. Braidwood to now make a list of all of the tools that we have learned. Click on the links to try them out!

So that’s a lot right? That’s just about all of the sites that I have used in this whole school year! I think that there are a lot there that I really enjoyed using and that I will use in the future, like for high-school projects and things like that. The most important and usful ones to me are Edublogs because (I will be using it through out the summer to write posts and you can make interesting posts throughout the school years), I also think You Tube because you can learn things from educational videos, Skype to connect with people around the world (like what we did with Mr. Webb’s class), Vocaroo and Voicethread to record your voice, and Glogster. I like Glogster becuase you can make posters form projects on the computer and I think that is a cool idea. I will also use Microsoft Word to make essays and reports for highschool and for my last year of elementary, too.

If you have any other sites that I can check out then go ahead and tell me! And be sure to check out the links that I have put up there for you!

Vancouver Aquarium! :D

Jelly FishGuess what! This week (actaully, June 1st) I went to the Aquarium in Vancouver and we slept over there! But… before I get to all of that I would like to tell you how the beginning of the trip started. It was an ordinary school day. We waited for the end of the day to come around so we could start driving to the fairy terminal. And let me tell you… It was exciting. No one could even focus because we were so exited! When the day finally ended we went to the lobby and waited for our drivers to pick us up. Then we started to head to our cars. We drove for about an hour and a half and arrived at the terminal in Nanaimo.

The ferry ride was long and fun. We got to go anywhere on the ferry as long as you checked in with your leader. We couldn’t go to the upstairs to the outside deck without an adult though. The ride was about another an hour and a half. When we got to Vancouver we all waited for the transit bus to come pick us up. Getting on the bus was really hard. Just everyone was holding their sleeping bags and carrying big packs. Once we all got on it was a long, cramped ride.

We got dropped off a at a bus stop and walked ot Stanley Park. We walked through Stanley Park to get to a playground right behind the Aquarium. Then we had to wait outside for about and hour in the rain… it was fun though. We walked around the Aquarium for about an hour and a half with the leaders of the Aquarium. We saw a lot of cool things like: beluga  whales playing, sea anemones (did you know that sea anemones can live for over ten years! Also sea anemones feel sticky when you touch them but really they are digging millions of little hooks into your skin!), sea stars, lots and lots of fish, bats, little monkeys, crocodiles, frogs, and even sharks!

We slept downstairs in the room with the beluga tank and it was AWESOME! Watching them play was lots of fun. We all fell to sleep at around 2:00am and woke up at 6:45. Then we walked around and took some more pictures and checked out the gift shop and then we had to go home. So we all started the journey back. And it was the same routine.

Now here’s a question for you have you ever been to the Aquarium or any aquarium?

PS: Here’s a video of two otters named Nyac and Milo holding hands! :D They are otters from the Vancouver Aquarium.

The Storm

rainbowThe dark night sky waits patiently

For the sun to disappear

As the bright sky starts to rain, the sun goes down.

Thunder starts to roll…

CRASH!

Lightening strikes and rain poors.

Clouds change grays and the winds wonders wildly.

The dark sky turns into a storm

But in time, the dawn comes around again.

And a rainbow is as clear as day.

My Blogging Accomplishments :)

Posted by hannan | Posted in Blogging, Blogging Challenge 2010 | Posted on 25-05-2010

check marksThis year I have already written 32 (now 33) posts, gotten 156 comments and the post I have gotten the most comments on was my Coke~A~Cola post! I think the reason the most comments was on that one is because lots of people like Coke and when then saw the title they wanted to read it! Once they started to read it and found out about why I wrote the post maybe they wanted to read more! I made sure the title and the writing was interesting  so people would read that post.  About half of my posts are the ones that I wanted to write though … the others were either Blogging Challenge or just assignments.

My favourite post was probably my Food Song that I made with Shania :) Lots of people listened to the song and looked at the lyrics. I was really happy with how it sounded! I liked it because it was really funny and fun to record and then all we had to do was write it down on the post so, it was pretty easy.

I changed my blog theme maybe 3 times becuase I liked to look at all the different themes and try out my favourites. I think the one I have now is my favourite because it makes my blog seem more fun to read. I like how I can see how many comments I get or have really easily. I also like how there is a subscribing button right at the top. I have 30 widgets on my blog. I think they are nessisary because they are full of information that people might like to know. I think that if I got anymore then it would be crowded and confusing so I like how many I have now. Maybe thats to many, I don’t really know…  it depends on what people like. :)

Hi everyone! Challenge 8 is to:  1) Go to a blog on your blog roll, 2) Go to a blog on the blog roll on that blog and, 3) Then you go to a blog on that blog roll and leave a comment on that post. Then I get to tell you why I chose that post to comment on!

To get to blog, the blogs I visited were:

  1. Mrs Yollis
  2. Mr. Salsich
  3. Team Toa

Team Toa is a third grade class in China! I thought it would be cool to have a class from China to comment on a post from. I think I like their blog becuase it has really cool and it has really interesting posts. But the post I commented on was their Story Telling post. I liked it because we do something similar at our school, too! I liked the video on it also… I thought it was pretty cool.

  1. Mr. Toft
  2. Mr. Weatherill
  3. Mr. Webb’s

I chose Mr. Webb’s blog because I like how on just about every post he has has a video! I chose the post Interacting with the Ripple Effect because it is about how we all talked on Skype!

  1. Mrs. Smith
  2. Mr Barrett
  3. Anne Marie’s blog

I chose Anne Marie’s blog because she has really interesting posts that are full of information. I chose her post on a book report because I think the book sounded interesting. I liked all of the details she included, too.

Now, the second part of the challenge was to say how to get more readers, visitors and comments on blog posts for new students and teachers joining blogging. I think the trick is to have catchy titles and make your blog fun to look at and to read. I use pictures from Flickr because it can draw readers in and make the posts more interesting (just make sure to credit the pictures!). I like to make sure the posts I write are not too, too long and make sure the writing is catchy and interesting. Using fun punctuation helps, too! When you are writing posts try to make your writing sound like how you would talk to someone. Make it funny!

Well, thanks for reading everyone! If you have any questions go ahead and ask!

Maori Mihi!

This week my class is talking to Mr. Webb’s class in Hamilton, New Zealand! We are using the program Skype to talk to them! My class has even thought of some great questions to ask them when we speaking to each other.  Well, many people are probably wondering what a Maori mihi is… right? It is a traditional greeting to introduce yourself! So, here’s my attempt at it… :P Here I go! Click on the Vocaroo play button to hear it!
